Understanding the NVRI

The National Vulnerability Ranking Index is a tool designed to identify and rank the hazard vulnerability of communities and sectors. The hazard vulnerability is displayed at parish, community and sector levels. Jamaica's hazard vulnerability is displayed in the NVRI Tool using four categories; these are Physical, Economic, Environment and Social Vulnerability. The level of vulnerability is ranked from low to high using a 5-point colour coded weighting system. The NVRI Tool is designed for use by a myriad of stakeholders. Users of the tool can search for vulnerabilities by category, sector, indicator and type of hazard. The NVRI Tool is the first of its kind in the Caribbean and is one of the key stes towards building national disaster resilience in Jamaica.
